D.O.A.: Dead On Arrival

CODE-BLUE!

Everyone pretty much knows what the term D.O.A. stands for: Dead On Arrival, used most commonly in the medical field. If a patient was brought into the ER or hospital and upon arrival they expire, they were confirmed as D.O.A.

There could be a number of circumstances or reasons for a person being classified as D.O.A:

1. Catastrophic brain damage

2. Rigor mortis stiffness

3. Obvious trauma to the body

4. Stillbirths

When we were born into this world, we are born D.O.A. We are Dead On Arrival.

“Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me.” ~Psalm 51:5

“But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),” ~Ephesians 2:4-5 (portion bolded for emphasis)

Ever since the bite of the forbidden fruit, we all have been born D.O.A. Spiritually dead. Flat-lined in faith. Only Adam & Eve were sinless before the fall and they were created by God, not born. Cain & Abel were the first two people born after the fall of man and look how that turned out for both of them being born D.O.A., which means being born into sin. The sin from Adam & Eve was transferred down to the rest of humanity. Sin means death.

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” ~Romans 6:23

Sin separates us from God. It is a huge chasm between the Creator and His creation. Sin is defined as a condition of estrangement from God.

“But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.” ~Isaiah 59:2

Sin caused such a huge division or separation between us and God that it took the act of God Himself being born into this sinful world, being nailed to a cross & crucified, and being resurrected in order for us to even have a relationship with Him again, as Adam & Eve did in the beginning. But we simply can’t be born and then expect to have a relationship with the Father.

We have to be Born-Again…and that takes some CPR: ConfessionPrayerReading.

We all know that CPR: cardio pulmonary resuscitation can be used to revive a person that has stopped breathing or whose heart has stopped beating.

But then there’s God’s CPR:

  • Confession of sin: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” ~1 John 1:9

  • Prayer to the Father: “But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” ~ Matthew 6:6

  • Reading of His Word: “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” ~2 Timothy 3:16-17

When we apply God’s CPR to our lives we are born again. That deep, wide division between God and us has been removed.

We have a relationship with Him now. We can fellowship with Him. We can talk with Him. We can love Him, as He’s always loved us. We are ALIVE in Christ. Amen?
